University of Connecticut

Storrs, Connecticut, 2003

The innovation of this work is the marriage of words with figures in a single expression. The phrases read across the facades of two separate buildings, spanning a gap of over 300 feet, connecting them through the shared themes of each constituency. The “exhortations” were created from the twelve letters in “University of Connecticut” and selected by the users, the Neag School of Education and the Center for Undergraduate Education. Thus the process, the message and the sculpture coalesced to provide a meaningful expression of campus and community.
